New girls at Hope Light Centre

Welcome to three new girls!

“Meet Terresiah Wanjiru, 13yrs.

Terresiah and her siblings were abandoned by their mother and left with her stepfather. The stepfather took them to the grandmother who rejected Terresiah on grounds that she was from a previous marriage. She had nowhere else to turn and was assisted by the police. She will be with us as the children’s social services try to locate her missing mother.”

“Meet Susan Wanjiku, 7yrs
Susan’s Mother is mentally handicapped and are both taken care of by her elder brother. He sought help from the police and health center after he suspected that someone may be taking advantage of his absence. Upon investigation, the doctors suspected that Susan may have undergone sexual abuse but unfortunately it could not be confirmed as the mother is mentally handicapped and could not recall much. Susan will be in our care as the police and well wishers help her brother care for their mother.”

“Meet Joy Ng’endo Maina, 8yrs old.

Joy was left under the care of her grandmother. Unfortunately her grandmother fell ill

and she had to be the one taking care of herself and the ailing grandmother. She could no longer attend school and was rescued by a neighbor. The children’s social services placed her at hopelight for care and protection as they trace any available family members who can help.”

Resilience and Hope

Ol Kalou, a small town nestled in the scenic highlands of Kenya, is home to a remarkable group of individuals who embody resilience and hope in the face of adversity – orphans. Despite their challenging circumstances, these young souls have managed to find strength within themselves and their community under the care of Living Love Ministries, inspiring us all with their unwavering determination to create a better future. In this blog post, we will explore the lives of orphans living in Ol Kalou and shed light on the initiatives that support and uplift them.

  1. Understanding the Orphan Crisis: Orphanhood is a pervasive issue in Kenya, with thousands of children losing their parents due to factors like poverty, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases. In Ol Kalou, these vulnerable children are faced with numerous hardships, including limited access to education, healthcare, and a nurturing environment. However, amidst these challenges, hope and resilience shine through their stories.
  2. The Power of Community: One of the remarkable aspects of Ol Kalou is the strong sense of community that surrounds the orphans. Living Love Ministries, together with your financial gifts provide support, ensuring that no child is left alone in their struggle. Our initiatives offer these children a safe space to heal, learn, and grow.
  3. Education as a Pathway to Empowerment: Access to quality education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering orphans to build a better future for themselves. In Ol Kalou, several educational institutions are dedicated to providing these children with learning opportunities. From primary schools to vocational training centers, these institutions equip orphans with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.
  4. The Healing Power of Art and Sports: Art and sports play a vital role in the emotional and psychological well-being of orphans. Living Love Ministries recognizes this, and we encourage children to express themselves creatively and engage in sports activities. Art therapy and sports programs not only provide a means of self-expression but also foster teamwork, discipline, and resilience among the young ones.
  5. Creating Sustainable Livelihoods: In addition to education, initiatives focused on creating sustainable livelihoods are crucial in helping orphans become self-reliant. Vocational training programs and entrepreneurship opportunities enable these children to develop skills in various trades, empowering them to secure a livelihood and support themselves as they transition into adulthood.

Conclusion: The orphans of Ol Kalou, Kenya, face numerous challenges on their journey, but their resilience, hope, and the support of Living Love Ministries drive them forward. Through education, community initiatives, art, sports, and sustainable livelihood programs, these children are given a chance to overcome their circumstances and create a brighter future for themselves and their community. It is our responsibility to stand alongside them, ensuring that no child is left behind and that every orphan in Ol Kalou has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Thank you for partnering with our Ministries to care for these precious children of God! James 1:27 (NIV): “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Purity’s Story

This is Purity, from our Hope & Light location, she burnt her hand as she tried to warm some tea with an electric water heater. After medical assessment, the Doctor advised that therapy and specialized nerve treatment could restore her arm.

We were able to take Purity to see an Orthopedic consultant, and she was approved for reconstruction surgery for the arm. By the grace of God, Purity was admitted at Kikuyu Orthopedic Center and had her wrist and hand contraction release surgery. She was a bit anxious, but God saw her through, the operation was a huge success. Purity is at Hope and Light recovering, she will visit the hospital every 2 days and go back for pin removal soon.

We thank God for this, and we are trusting He will get her through to complete healing. Thank you to all of our supporters for making it possible to care for the vulnerable children of Kenya!
